Deep Learning Model Trained on Mobile Phone- Acquired Frozen Section Images Effectively Detects Basal Cell Carcinoma

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background: Margin assessment of basal cell carcinoma using the frozen section is a common task pathology intraoperative consultation. Although frequently straightforward, determination presence or absence on tissue sections can sometimes be challenging. We explore if deep learning model trained mobile phone-acquired images have adequate performance for future deployment.

Deep learning enhanced mobile-phone microscopy

Mobile-phones have facilitated the creation of field-portable, cost-effective imaging and sensing technologies that approach laboratory-grade instrument performance. However, the optical imaging interfaces of mobile-phones are not designed for microscopy and produce spatial and spectral distortions in imaging microscopic specimens. Here, we report on the use of deep learning to correct such dis...

The Importance of Frozen Section-Controlled Excision in Recurrent Basal Cell Carcinoma of the Eyelids

OBJECTIVES To show the importance of frozen section-controlled excision to avoid the re-recurrence of recurrent basal cell carcinoma (BCC) of the eyelids. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-five cases who underwent eyelid tumor excision in different centers and were admitted to our clinic with recurrent eyelid tumors. Recurrent tumors were resected by excision 1-2 mm from the tumor's visible margin...

Excision of head and neck basal cell carcinoma with a rapid, cross-sectional, frozen-section technique.

OBJECTIVES To compare a rapid, cross-sectional frozen-section technique with Mohs micrographic surgery, using recurrence rate and cost of treatment for excision of basal cell carcinoma as indicators to validate our indications for Mohs surgery. DESIGN Retrospective study of 557 head and neck basal cell carcinomas excised over 10 years. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Recurrence rates; tumor compariso...

Basal cell carcinoma of the lower extremities

Background: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC), the most common form of skin cancer, usually occurs in the sun-exposed areas of the body like head and neck, yet is also seen in unexpected sites. Myriad studies have mentioned a lower limb BCC incidence rate of 1.5-13.5%.Methods: The present retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 650 BCC patients, who were referred to the dermatology tumor ...

ANGIOGENESIS ASSESSMENT IN BASAL CELL CARCINOMA

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is currently the most common cutaneous cancer found in humans. Although it generally shows a relatively benign course (BCCl), some cases show aggressive behavior (BCC2). Until recently, traditional histologic diagnostic criteria have failed to discriminate unequivocally between BCC 1 and BCC2. In this study we selected 50 cases of BCC and categorized them into tw...
